Driving to Florida in 1950

In 1950 my old man came home with a 25 foot trailer and informed us that we were moving to Florida. Here we are on the road.

My mother was taken by the Spanish moss hanging from the huge oaks.

This was this was probably in north Florida on the way to Ft. Lauderdale. We had missed the turn to Anna Maria Island, which a friend up north had visited and recommended, so my old man decided that we should keep driving. I remember well seeing our first citrus trees. My mother, who did most of the driving stopped the car, and my sister and I posed. I remember this very well.

Santa is running out of time…

Thanks for sharing these memories. I remember my grandmother singing in the kitchen of what today would be called a shack. She always sang the hymn, “Precious Memories”. … I understand that now.
