Tree Roots

We boated down to the north end of Longboat Key yesterday. It’s a beautiful beach. When I was a kid, and after they built the bridge connecting Longboat and Anna Maria, there was a little island there that we called “Beer Can Island”. We named it that for obvious reasons. We used to water ski in the cove behind the island. Over the years, the sandbar connecting the little island to Longboat rose out of the water. This was due to the effect of the bridge on the tidal flow. Now it is all land. These tree roots are what remains of some of the Australian Pines that were closest to the Gulf of Mexico waters. You can see the south end of Anna Maria Island across the inlet. The end of the bridge is on the right. By the way, the day was beautiful. Temperature about 76º.
