Raccoons

If you watched my video about my childhood, you know about our love for raccoons. My sister still feeds them. I tell her she shouldn’t do it, but she’s never listened to anything I’ve ever suggested. Oh, well. There are only four now. They live under her shed and her pool deck. Geeze. I hope she doesn’t mind my posting this video.

A while back somebody asked my to post this story. At least I think this is the one that she wanted. It’s about Spencer’s pets. It’s from 1990.

I don’t know about your southern coons, but in Colorado they are nasty and aggressive animals. They carry roundworms which will infect you! And rabies. a terrible disease still. Here ours terrorize and can kill cats and dogs, not just infect them, so we definitely don’t leave food out. Most of us take stronger measures to keep them away.

I know what you mean about some people just not listening. My sympathies.

The raccoons that we had as pets were raised from babies. I’ve heard about the worm problems. And up around Washington D.C. rabies is a constant menace. It comes and goes, but you have to be careful. I came across a rabid raccoon in Rock Creek Park about 35 years ago.I used to do a lot of bird watching and mushroom gathering, so I was out in the woods quite a bit.
