Aussies will recognize Jim Russell. He was well into his nineties and came up to America every year. A real nice guy. He drew The Potts for 62 years. To Jim’s left is Sally Mitchell, the lawyer ,married to Mell Lazarus, who got my cartoons back from National Lampoon. The text says that the guy to my left is Dan Piraro. It sure doesn’t look like him. I didn’t mention earlier that Johnny owned and wrote The Wizard of Id.  Brant met Johnny when Johnny was a teenager. He got him started in cartooning. Brant was a heck of a nice guy. He didn’t talk much when his wife was around, but if you got him alone he was very interesting to listen to and very smart. Bill Gallo at the top left was a sports cartoonist for The Daily News (New York) for many years.

One of my favorite cartoons is Footrot Flats by Murray Ball. It circulated for years in New Zealand and Australia. Ever meet Murray? I fell in love with the strip on my honeymoon in NZ in 1988.

Never heard of it. I’ll check it out. I think the only other Aussie cartoonist I met was Gary Clark. I met him in Sweden probably around 1990.
