Florida oranges

They used to be the best in the world. Notwithstanding that it’s past the season, I bought some oranges the other day.

See that? Imported from South Africa. They also sell oranges from Peru and Argentina. When I was in Anna Maria Elementary there was a Tropicana orange juice dispenser in the covered walkway. For ten cents you could get a half pint of really good juice. That was in the early fifties. Now Florida juice orange trees have a bacterial blight, but they sell the juice anyway. Did I ever mention that I worked at Tropicana here in Bradenton when I was 18? I made fruitsicles. $1.25 an hour.

From September 2005. Sid is a dealer in fine art.
