OK, I said no more Budapest, but this excursion was about an hour outside the city in the wine region. We visited two vineyards near Etyek, Hungary. The filmed Matt Damon’s movie The Martian there. Very close to them was a big movie studio way out in the countryside. The studios were about the size of a football field. I think there were three of themThere was a town set near where we entered the area.

The wines were very good as in just about all of Eastern Europe where we had them. The first vineyard was in the middle of the town. The building looked small, but the cellar was huge.

The second was on a hill, not far from the movie studio, overlooking a beautiful valley.

The wines at both vineyards were excellent. And cheap by our standards, $5 – $7.

If you like vineyards you should visit Walla Walla, Washington. Closer than eastern Europe and (most of) the residents speak english too.

Great vineyards in Walla Walla! Got to get back there. Alas, the wines do cost a bit more than $5-$7! OK, a lot more.
