When I was young I spent a lot of time out in the woods, the swamps and on the shore doing some high class bird watching. We went for a stroll on the north end of Anna Maria Island on Sunday. I posted these photos full scale so you can blow them up in case you’re a bird person. Here’s the North Shore:
There were a bunch of sandpipers that I didn’t get a shot of. Lots of Least Sandpipers among them. The birds are very calm, you can walk right up to them. If you can blow it up you’ll see mostly Forster’s terns. Then there are the skimmers, some immature laughing gulls (I think), at least one least sandpiper, herring gulls. In the distance are a couple sandpipers I didn’t identify.
Here’s a blowup. The skimmers are the ones with the big beaks and black backs.
The herring gulls (I think) and a least sandpiper:
This sandpiper was the only one of its kind on the beach. It was all speckled. It might have been a black bellied plover.
Halloween 14 years ago, Pickle and I (Cheeseman) dressed up and went to a big bar in Centreville VA. I got into a fight. No worries, I won. The big jerk learned a lesson. You don’t mess with a Super Hero. Here’s a Cheeseman story from 2009.
