What do you season the fruit cake with? Brandy, whiskey, rum or fortified win?
That will work. Do you use for flavor, moistness or both? Grandma made fruitcake and I bet if you lit it it would have burnt for a week.
Both. But it also helps preserve it. Fruitcake lasts a long time.
I LOVE fruitcake! Costco had the best, but they didn’t stock any this year even though they always sold out. Sigh….. Tried others but they were all lacking. Even bought some on Amazon from Trappist Monks in Oregon – it wasn’t bad, but very expensive and just acceptable. Maybe Frau Grace should start selling these online!
I used to buy it from the Trappists in the Shenandoah. It was very good, but not as good as Frau Grace’s. The good ones cost a heck of a lot of money for the ingredients, but it’s worth it.
No, you GOTTA GOTTA GOTTA watch “Fruitcake Fraud”, you can stream it on discovery+, it covers Collin Street Bakery’s major embezzlement scandal…so you get to see them make delicious fruitcake, and also see a modern day Sid Fernwilter’s story. Corsicana, TX, is where it all went down. The people at Collin Street appear to be salt of the earth.
My father sent us a Collin Street cake every Christmas, I am sure homemade ones could rival them, but it’s far and away the best fruitcake you can buy. I have never heard anyone challenge this statement, either.
No, not ‘No’!
I’ll see if I can find it. I don’t have Discovery channel. I stream. They make Claxton in Texas too. That’s awful stuff.
