And this is Kauai. It’s the oldest and westernmost of the principal islands. It’s where they take helicopter rides to look at the mountains and valleys. It’s sparsely populated. Here is my first view of Hawaii.

One of the big attractions is the World Famous Spouting Horn.

You’ve seen one spouting horn you’ve seen them all. But the Waimea Canyon is really spectacular:

When my wife and I retired, we got jobs on Kauai. Our plan was for it be an extended holiday. After about 6 months, we headed home. What they say about island fever is true. We had seen and done everything you can on the island. It is a beautiful island, but you can do a lot there in about 2 weeks.

I never imagined how beautiful. Also the scenery.

Been years since we’ve been to Kauai – but just loved the helicopter ride over the canyon. I hope you were able to do it. Back then we had to think hard about spending $75 on the trip, but it was worth every penny. It is the “Garden Isle.”

Then we spent a month each winter (getting out of the “Big Dark” in Seattle) in Kihei on Maui – more to do and a volcano to boot. Then stopped when we bought a winter place in Arizona. Now that we’re full-time AZ, we need to leave in the summer…. and it’s back to Maui!
