Economists have used horse manure as an example of a commodity that has completely reversed value; it’s gone from having to pay to get it hauled away, to being highly in demand. One somewhat prominent economist was taken to court by his neighbor for manure theft. His colleagues noted that he was the first economist to be recorded as a net importer of horses***, unlike all others, who exported it.
