Norm H also asked for the story where Ernie was changed to Piranha Club.  I had just won the award from the Cartoonist Society for having the best comic strip. What dopes. As part of a new promotion my editor thought it was a good idea if we changed the name of the strip. I didn’t think so, but what the heck, I’m only the cartoonist. The strip remained Ernie in many countries. This is from 1998.

Once my good friend Connie C was in some motel that had a vibrating bed. She put two quarters in the slots and turned it on. It vibrated all night long. She couldn’t get it to turn off.

Over the years I had to change Effie’s character. Believe it or not, many ladies found the early Effie objectionable.

Mitzi Perdue was Frank’s wife. She was quite a character in her own right. She had a chicken feather negligee made and sent me a picture of herself in it.

Frank Perdue was the Chicken King, at least on the East Coast. He even looked like a chicken. Google him and look at one of his tv commercials. I probably should have used Colonel Sanders, but my editor said to go ahead with Frank, because Frank seemed a little weird.
