We’re having a bumper crop of mangoes in my neighborhood.

Yum! Wish we lived where mangoes grow. When I was growing up and lived in Hawaii and the Philippines, I loved being able to pick all kinds of different fruits from the trees that grew all around us!

Frau G fills our freezer with the darn things. We have a neighbor who dumps them off by the dozen, and then there’s Banana Bob. Last time thru town he left about 20 mangoes and a ton of lychees. Yesterday Frau G tried to make a mango margarita. At least there’s one thing they’re good for.

Mango margaritas are delicious! Whenever I make a fruit salad, I feel like it is not finished unless I add a mango. The mangos in the Philippines are yellow and the ones in Hawaii are green and red. My other favorite tropical fruit is the guava! When I was a kid, we would walk around the base at Clark and eat fresh fruit off the trees all the time! It was great. I thought that was normal until we came back to the states! We were never stationed in Florida when I was growing up and the first time I visited there it reminded me of the tropical places where we were stationed. I love Florida!
