Hasse H colored the photos of me with the two snakes that I posted a few days ago. By the way, Hasse, There’s no way in hell I would do that again. The other night about one AM there was a terrible noise in my AC unit just outside my bedroom window. I ran out to the garage and threw the circuit breaker. The next morning I checked it out. It was a big old snake all chopped up.
BTW that house behind me in the rattlesnake picture was the one my father built in 1956. It was abandoned after that hurricane last year. The doors are all unlocked and I could go though it. The owners had totally trashed it. Seeing my boyhood home destroyed was not a pleasant experience.
It must have been pretty intense growing up when dealing with such snakes wasn’t out of the ordinary – but getting a snake chopped up in the AC unit the other night suggests things haven’t changed that much in your neck of the woods. Yikes.
Pity about your boyhood home, as it still stands after 70 years and numerous hurricanes it must have been built well. Perhaps it will end up in the care of new owners someday. Good foundations.
It was well built. Solid masonery. Solid wood panelling inside. I remember two of the rooms. Pecky cyprus and knotty pine. All the rooms were different hardwood. The entire ceiling was held up by 6×8 timbers. Terrazzo floor, and there wasn’t a crack in it when I was there. But it was built before we had AC.
