Last night at the Sarasota Opera we saw Stiffelio. I was wrong. It wasn’t the Pope who banned it, it was the city council. I don’t think Verdi minded so very much. The was no memorable music in it. The tenor was good. Victor Starsky, young guy, was also Don Jose in Carmen that we saw last year. The rest were good. At least they sing better than I.
